How to Know When to Take A Rest Day

Ever wake up and think "what did I do yesterday?!"

Or roll over to your alarm and say, "ugh, already?" (Me everyday!)

Or get to bed past midnight, only to have your toddler wake you up 3.5 hours later?

How to know when to take a rest day

When you wake up feeling run down, your body is trying to tell you something.

There could be so many things going on - like:

😴 Not enough sleep

🥳 Too much fun stuff, not enough energising foods and water

🤧 You're coming down with something

💪🏼 🏃🏼‍♀️ You overdid it in your workouts this week

😤 You're too stressed

🥪 You're not eating enough on a regular basis

And that's just to name a few.

So what do you do when you wake up feeling rubbish?

Start the day off on the right foot.
  • Sleep more if you can.

  • Get outside first thing in the morning.

  • Drink a big glass of water and then keep sipping regularly throughout the day.

  • Eat filling and nourishing foods.

And maybe skip the gym.
  • Or change up your workout.

  • Go easier.

  • Or do an active recovery workout instead.

  • Maybe just stretch or go for a long walk.

Sometimes you CAN push through feeling a little groggy.

But know - feeling rundown is NOT the same as feeling unmotivated or just "tired".

Please know - feeling rundown is not the same as feeling unmotivated or just "tired".

Listen to your body.

Listen to your body

If you're experiencing:

  • Overwhelming brain fog

  • Severe muscle soreness

  • Major fatigue

  • Fever, any sort of signs of sickness

That means you probably need to rest.

if in doubt Go to the doctors

And if those are all good, then perhaps take a trip to the doctors and let them know what's going on.

This will help us understand what might be causing your pain and allow me to develop an individualised program for you.

For our go-getters, it's not easy to take a rest day. But sometimes you just have to.

Your body will thank you.

PS: we recommend taking at least 1-2 full rest days a week!

That doesn't mean turn into a potato. It just means you don't need to be in the gym every day. Walk, hike, stretch, move, but no lifting, running, or exerting at high intensity.

Your program can be delivered in person or remotely for as long as we both feel necessary.
